“Gathering to Give”

Queen-Bee Pantry was established as a nonprofit in 2024

QUEEN-BEE PANTRY

Queen-Bee Pantry was founded to address the urgent and growing issue of food insecurity among underserved and marginalized populations in the Greenbank, Washington area. In early 2024, the pantry’s founders recognized a critical gap in local support systems—particularly for LGBTQIA+ individuals, low-income families, seniors, single parents, veterans and people living in rural or isolated communities—who often face barriers to accessing basic necessities without fear of judgment or discrimination.

The pantry emerged as a direct response to these intersecting challenges. Many community members were struggling to find consistent, safe, and affirming sources of food and hygiene products. Existing resources in the area were limited, overburdened, or not culturally competent enough to meet the needs of queer and trans individuals. At the same time, economic instability, housing insecurity, and rising living costs were compounding food access issues for people of all backgrounds.

Our Organization

Queen-Bee Pantry emphasizes community support and outreach, driven by the dedication of its members. They have chosen to support The Haven, Whidbey Homeless Coalition of South Whidbey, and Readiness to Learn. Additionally, through a community outreach event with Barrier Breakers and Rob Preston, they provided free telephones to qualifying individuals.

Testimonials

Another client, a single parent, wrote: "I work two jobs and still can't always afford food by the end of the month. Queen-Bee Pantry helped me feed my kids without judgment. It gave me peace of mind when I didn't know where else to turn."

A local trans community member shared: "Queen-Bee Pantry was the first place I walked into where I didn't have to explain myself. They used my correct name and pronouns and treated me like I mattered-not just like someone in need, but someone with dignity."

I am thankful that they have nurse Judy on the board. Judy has sent many people to Queen-Bee Pantry and has given Nutritional values in some foods. Thank you Judy for your service with Queen-Bee pantry.

Queen-Bee Pantry is such a good resource. The Community all come together to help people in need. I can’t thank the people who run this place enough.  Sincerely, A Customer

The pantry has been a blessing, providing me with essential food and helping me avoid hunger. Thank you Tanya

You have help me during my recovery from knee surgery . Always willing to help if you can.

Wanted to make an anonymous testimonial as someone who has used the pantry. I try my best to get by on income and ebt alone but some months are definitely harder than others when some unexpected expenses come up. The queen bee pantry has been a great recourse for not just my household but my parents who are on fixed disability income as well. Having the pantry has been a great fall back resource when my household as well as my parents household we’re in need of assistance but had minimal money to donate. We are so thankful the pantry is there in times of need.

Felix, Tanya, Yarel, and Lila all go above and beyond to help out the community. They give long hours and much dedication time to keep the pantry open on a daily! They always make me feel important and always make me feel special even when I don’t feel that way all the time. Thank you so much for putting us first.

You have helped me and lots of other families get thru hard times. I thank you for all that you've done for this community.
